The stud comprises two main elements: there is a flat disc with a downward turned rim; through the centre of the disc is secured a knobbed conical projection with a rectangular shaft which passes through an onion shaped washer on the underside of the stud. The pointed end of the onion shaped washer is aligned with two niches in the rim of the stud as if it originally passed through one of them.
