A seal of elaborate design; the archbishop standing in pontificals within a gothic-type niche, in his left hand his primatial cross. Above, in a small niche, the Blessed Virgin seated supporting the Child, a bird perchedon her left shoulder. To either side of the archbishop, two canopied niches; in the uppermost; dext. St.Paul; sin. ST.Peter; in tyhe lower: an angel bearing a shield: quarterly, FRANCE (Ancient) and ENGLAND; in outer niches, two uncertain figures. mIn base, two kneeling figures; on a saltire, a crescent : all between two lions sejant guardant addorsed. (This is the last York seal to portray the archbishop as the principal motif).
