Archaeological excavation at Hafod foundry, Swansea, 21 August 2015. Looking SE at engine loading and flywheel pit east of the centre of the main foundry building and near to its north wall. The loading and pit are oriented at right angles to long axis of foundry building. The masonry suggests that it is contemporary with the initial construction of the building and that the engine may have been a vertical one. The dimensions of the loading and pit are more suggestive that it powered a rolling mill than only powered machine tools within the foundry engineering department.
