A benchlike platform of open-framed timber houses the cogs and shafts for the transmission of power to the two millstones contained in a looped wooden drum above. (Accession file specimen card form)
The millstones housed in a large coopered drum, which is detacheable. A frame on top of the drum holds a wooden hopper(.2) in place. The hopper can be accessed by using a moveable wooden ladder or steps(.3) placed against the side of the main platform. Lengthwise along the platform is a shaft with a very large pulley wheel at one end. A belt would have been attached on the pulley wheel from the source of power. At the other end of the drive shaft was a cog, which turned another cog on a vertical shaft. These have become detached from the mill.
