Catrin Finch

MAYBIN, Edith

Born in Ceredigion, Catrin Finch is regarded as the most gifted classical harp virtuoso of her generation. She is also a composer, whose music pushes the boundaries of classical, often collaborating with musicians across genres and continents. This portrait, taken in 2006 at Tredegar House, captures Finch 7months pregnant with her daughter, Ana Gwen. Photographer Edith Maybin regularly explores the mother-daughter relationship in her work, here capturing the power and beauty of Finch’s changing body. More recently, in 2018, whilst undergoing treatment for breast cancer, Finch continued to tour her music, recognizing it as a source of focus and strength.
