Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
This ewer was not cast in one piece, the spout and handle were cast separately and then joined. Although made with less ingenuity, it is nevertheless an object of refinement, well made and assembled and finished on a lathe. Hinge at top handle terminal for lid, now missing.
This held water for washing hands between courses - polite manners in noble households.
LI2.1
Site Name: Strata Florida Abbey, Strata Florida
Notes: the ewer had been in the possession of the Bonsall family for approximately 80 years prior to its purchase and is "said with very high probability to have been found at Strata Florida Abbey" in a report by the Museum's director, dated 1.7.27.
