Chambers, William South Wales Pottery (1839 - 1855)
Plate, earthenware, circular shape with rounded foot-rim, cushion-moulded sides and spreading rim, a raised edge to the well, eight notches and lobes to the rim; transfer-printed in blue outline and underglaze blue infill with to the centre of the well the 'Amherst Japan' pattern, in the foreground a stylized basket issuing spreading sprays of imari-style flowers and foliage, in the background a small pagoda with a fence in front of it, to the rim and extending down the sides of the well sprays of imari-style flowers and scrolling foliage, to the outer rim panels of a dark blue ground. The foot-rim chipped.
