Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Badge of 202 (Reserve) Squadron based at Royal Air Force Valley. Black twill-woven ground with insignia and motto machine embroidered in gold, red, blue, silver and pale brown thread. Crown above a blue circle with a mallard alighting in centre. Details picked out in green, yellow, white and black. Inscribed: SQUADRON 202 ROYAL AIR FORCE (gold script on blue circle), SEMPER VIGILATE (Be Always Vigilant) on a gold scroll below (black script).
Edges finished with machine-stitched button hole stitches (the end of thread has been secured on the reverse of the badge with a shiny, transparent adhesive). The reverse is reinforced (stiffened) with white open-weave canvas fabric that has been adhered to the black twill. The embroidery is worked through those two layers.
