Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Incomplete figure of a dolphin which served as a fountain-spout. Some of the features show signs of weathering and the surface of the stone is rather pitted. Traces remain of a lime-wash or gesso, indicating that the piece may originally have been coloured. The head of the dolphin is complete, as is the base on which it is set, but the tail which once curled above is lost. The dolphin is supported on its plinth by waves.
Site Name: Caerleon Fortress Baths, Caerleon
Notes: found on the base of the natatio, beneath late Roman infilling.
