Pre-fabricated ring, the lowest element of the lining of Well I, formed from two naturally curved boughs of ash each bearing some bark-edge and scars of trimmed branches to outer circumference, still rounded. Top and bottom surfaces axe-trimmed flat, with lesser degree of dressing at circumference; internal face very neatly worked (by axe or adze) to a more or less precise circle presenting vertical wall to shaft. The end of each arc is halved by axe, with one element providing both lower laps (one carefully housed), and secured to its counterpart with squared pegs (40mm) worked from small branches. Axe-trimming around the extremities of the joints show the ring to have been pegged together before it was inserted in the well-shaft.
