Roman samian bowl
Samian bowl sherd, form Dr37. A pink, cream-flecked ware with red slip. A large double-border ovolo with a long tongue bent to the right. Figures in the central panel are cupid to the left (O.441A) and Venus with some drapery (a larger varient of O.928). The draped figure on the left is not identifiable. The decoration is reminiscent of central Gaul.

Notes: Field adjoins the south-west side of the legionary fortress : 'A' material is from Courtyard House (Civil Settlement). Context: at 34-42: in occupation on latest Stone Phase paving.
