S.S. NURTURETON, glass negative

Built 1929 by Short Brothers of Sunderland for the Carlton Steamship Co., (Chapman & Son) of Newcastle. On 5 January 1931 NURTURETON ran aground in fog near Dungeness and broke in two just abaft of the bridge area (see notes). She had been carrying coal from Newcastle to Italy. Both halves were refloated and taken to Rotterdam where the vessel was reassembled. 1953 - Sold to Johs. Fritzen & Sohn', of Emden, Germany and renamed ERIKA FRITZEN. In May 1960 she was sold to the Oriental Steel & Rolling Mills Co., of Hong Kong and renamed MONGKOK. She arrived at Hong Kong in August 1960 to be broken up.
