Cardiff’s only trawling company, Neale & West, was founded as a fish merchants, business in 1885. Their first trawler was acquired in 1888 and the firm later adopted a series of distinctive Japanese names for their vessels. In this view the 340 gross ton Muroto, built at Stockton-on-Tees in 1931, is seen hurrying home to the firm's base at the bottom of the West Bute Dock, c. 1948. Neale & West ceased trading in 1956.

Trawler CF28 MUROTO (340gt). Built 1930 by Smith's Dock Co., Stockton-on -Tees, for Neale & West Ltd., Cardiff. She was requisitioned by the Admiralty and served as a minesweeper between August 1939 and November 1944. She was broken up at Newport, Gwent in 1956.
