Salt cellar
Salt cellar in the shape of the head and shoulders of a woman in Welsh costume.
The Welsh lady became a marketing gimmick. She appeared on china, jugs, plates, tea towels and all kinds of souvenirs. The development of the railways in the middle of the 1880s brought new tourists to Wales. Souvenirs became all the rage. The industry contributed to the Welsh costume becoming a national icon.
