Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
A rag doll with a neatly sewn stuffed body. The head is rather unusual in that it is completely featureless, however, contrasting brown material has been sewn onto the top and back of the head as hair or head cover. The head appears slightly moth eaten and the stuffing can be seen in several places. The head has been sewn onto the body and could possibly be a replacement to the original. The quality of the needlework about the head is rather crude relative to the rest of the body.
The doll is wearing a long blue dress, a flannelette petticoat and white undergarment, red socks and shoes.
The doll was called ‘Ginny Glyn’ by the donor.
This item is difficult to date, there is no identifying mark, but another doll from the same collection was c. 1875 and this doll has, probably, a similar date.
