In 1819 the Gwladys or Lady Falls on the river Pyrddin moved William Weston Young to write a poem which opens: 'Sweet scene of features soft and mild, Mix'd with objects grand and wild Rocks of soft though darken'd hue, Foliage rich and varied too;After gently gliding by,O'er smooth rocks of polish'd face,Where each joint and line we trace'
