Medieval ceramic floor tile
Lewis Group 20 no.257
Stamp-on slip. Fragment of rectangular tile, deeply scored for division before firing; each square division has a Lombardic-style character (a cross formy, A and E) set diagonally in a rectangular frame.
This tile (12.178/41) is a single square decorated with a cross formy. It joins with 12.178/37 but it was previously adhered with 12.176/36 and 12.176/37 to form a single tile (see Lewis 1999, p. 147, catalogue number 257) but all three tiles have now been separated.
