Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
A gold iconographic ring.
The large ring has a ridged bezel, its two faces/panels being engraved with image. On the left a woman in hooded gown teaching a girl with halo and full dress, to read (possibly St Anne teaching the Virgin to read, with an open book); on the right panel St George with shield on left arm and vertical lance in the right hand, over a dragon with dotted body, long arched tail and wings.
The hoop of the ring is shaped as a twist or ‘wreath’; the shoulders are decorated with pentafoils on stalks with heaves, and beaded rope twist below.
The inside of the hoop is engraved with the legend:
en bon an (‘A good year’) in Black Letter script.
