Plate, earthenware, circular shape with rounded foot-rim, curving sides and spreading rim, the rim moulded with four panels of embossed foliate sprays separated by vertical ribs running from the edge of the rim to the edge of the well, eight notches and lobes to the edge of the rim; transfer-printed in blue outline and partially overpainted in blue and red and heightened with yellow to imitate gold, with to the centre of the well the 'Amherst Japan' pattern, in the foreground a stylized basket issuing spreading sprays of imari-style flowers and foliage, in the background a small pagoda with a fence in front of it, to the rim and extending down the sides of the well sprays of imari-style flowers and scrolling foliage, to the outer rim six panels of stylized yellow leaves on a dark blue ground. The glaze to the upperside of the dish slightly worn.
