ECM: Capel Brithdir; Tegernacus Stone

Irregular upright slab, the main face plain except for the inscription. Modern initials scratched above and below the inscription

Tegernacus is a Brythonic name meaning ‘ruler’. Brythonic was spoken across Britain. In the same way that Latin developed into modern Italian, Brythonic developed to become Welsh. Tegernacus is the source of the word teyrn, ‘ruler’ in Welsh.
