Rasp
A short steel rasp with four cutting surfaces. One side is half round, the other flat. It was used for smoothing leather soles, sole edges and heels of shoes. The half-round side was to give the edge of the heel a slightly hollowed contour; the flat side used for smoothing the forepart edges, after which any 'nap' or 'burr' appearing on the extreme edge is smoothed off with the file-cut side of the rasp.
