Jug

Jug, greyish buff stoneware, salt-glaze, pewter foot rim, standing on a short stem ornamented with stamped rosettes, globular body, incised and stamped with an all-over design of stylised flowers and foliage in manganese on an underglaze blue ground, the centre front applied with a lion mask within an inscribed circlet, a large formal floret on either side within similar inscribed circlets, tall neck with sparrow-beak spout, the rim ornamented with stamped rosettes and lobes, grooved strap handle with rolled terminal, stepped pewter cover, hinged with flattened ball thumbpiece.
