Plate, cockle
Cockle plate, circular shape with rounded foot-rim, cushion-moulded sides and spreading rim, the rim moulded with a continuous decoration of embossed flower heads and leaves; transfer-printed in black with to the centre of the well a rustic scene showing a female figure standing beneath a porch and banging on a saucepan to awaken bees from hives to one side of the porch, a hen and chickens in the foreground and trees in the background, to the top of the scene is printed "INDUSTRY" and below is printed "A DEAD BEE MAKETH NO HONEY", the plate cracked and repaired.
