Medieval gold finger ring

15th century gold iconographic finger ring.

The ring has a ridged bezel, the two faces being engraved with images of St Barbara holding a tower in her right hand (on left panel) and John the Baptist with halo in Lake Galilee (on right panel). The hoop is shaped as a twist or 'wreath'; the shoulders are decorated with sprigs and pentafoils, and each bears a single word to form the legend: NUL AUTRE ('No other') in Black Letter script, between sprigs.

The inscription was originally recorded as NUL AWT ('None other')
