Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Thorndon Type
Oval shaped socket mouth. The only slightly concave socket margin with the blade top is diagnostic. Rivet hole piercing the centre of each socket side about 15.1mm from the socket end. Internal socket scars around these upper rivet holes indicate punching. Near the base of the socket is a pair of 'dimples' on each surface, 13.5mm apart and laterally placed. One of these has been pierced, forming a second rivet hole, probably a repair, 26.0mm from socket mouth. Casting seams are visible down socket sides, but carefully finished off. Blade has a gently rounded central section, bordered by concave edges. Green patina.
