Wedding hat
Small floral hat, worn for wedding with a bolero and dress. Wire shaping front with black buckram interior edged with pink millinery petersham. Cover constructed from strips of pink crepe stitched together to form crown and band at back of head, finished with a made bow. Front of hat trimmed with pink cotton 'velvet' flowers. Hat intended to be worn on top of head, with band fitting around the back of the head. Formerly worn with a piece of net veiling, now missing.
Worn by Doris Bamford on her wedding to Colin Berry, 9 September 1941 at the Congregational Church, Rhos on Sea. A notice in the local newspaper described the bride as being "attired in a dress of alpine pink with hat and shoes to match, and wore a spary of roses and white heather." Wartime weddings were usually low-key events, often organized in haste to coincide with a period of leave from the military.
