Patchwork bedcover
Patchwork bedcover, mid-19th century. Supposedly made by three sisters from Darowen - Mair, Jane and Elizabeth Richards.
Made from a variety of cotton prints. Unlined. Rows of flower-heads, hexagons, squares and chevrons with occasional stars, diamonds and leaves. Other motifs include horses, a harp, a peacock and a church. Inscriptions include 'Mair' (in bardic script - Coelbren y Beirdd) and the initials of various Richards family members and friends.
