Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
These are moderately preserved remains from the inhumation burial of an adult who's sex in undetermined. Recovered within the burial fill (1209) was a heavily damaged flint arrowhead, 2025.7H/3.36.
SK124 is missing from the Human Remains catalogues but is referenced in the Context Reports and Burial Phase Maps in the grey report. Both sources place this grave in Middle Ditch Recut G29. This is on the South side of the main mound within the cemetery.
SK124 is either from Burial Phase J: 801-1052 AD or Phase M: 970-1060 AD. The body position and orientation of this burial is uncertain. The Burial Phase Map (fig 4.26) shows SK124 as small round shape, which is uncommon compared to other near-complete adult skeletons on the map. Considering the confusion around SK124, this may be due to an anomaly during post-excavation analysis.
Problematically, each source places SK124 in different Burial Phases.
The Context Report places SK124 in Cemetery Phase 10, placing it most probably in Burial Phase M (or potentially N or O). The Burials Maps include SK124 as part of Burial Phase J (figure 4.26 in grey report), placing it in Cemetery Phases 7 or 8. Radiocarbon dates for these Burial Phases are very similar however; Phase J: 801-1052 AD Phase M: 970-1060 AD
