Plate

Plate, earthenware, circular shape with rounded foot-rim, cushion-moulded sides and spreading rim, the rim moulded with floral sprays and sprigs, small birds, star-shaped flower heads and foliate sprays, a lobed edge to the outer rim; transfer-printed in black with to the centre of the well a design composed of the inscription "The Path of Truth / is Plain and Safe" enclosed within an elaborate rectangular cartouche of scrolls and foliage with a spray of flowers and foliage across the bottom and shells to each of the top corners, to the top of the cartouche is an open book, across which is printed "Holy Bible" and which is surrounded by a radiant halo, the moulded floral sprays and sprigs and the small birds to the rim picked out in red, yellow, blue and green, and the star-shaped flower heads overpainted in pink lustre. The rim chipped.
