A silver one shilling token issued by Robert Waters & Robert Waters in Carmarthen. Robert Waters & Robert Waters, also known as Carmarthen Bank, ran from the early 19th century until its bankruptcy in 1832.
Tokens were issued by corporations, tradespersons and businesses to act as alternative currency in exchange for their services. In the early 19th century, this helped compensate for the shortage of official silver currency during the Napoleonic Wars.
