WHITRIDGE WILLIAMS but completed 1943 by Bethlehem-Fairfield Shipyards Inc., Baltimore, Maryland (with engines by Worthington Pump & Machinery Corp, Harrison, New Jersey), as SAMSYLVAN for MoWT (managed by Shaw, Savill & Albion Co., London) under the British flag. 1947 – Sold to Shaw, Savill & Albion Co., London, and renamed TROPIC. 1952 – Sold to San Francisco Soc.di Nav., and renamed SAN FRANCISCO (managed by Angelo Scinariello, Naples) registered in Italy. In January 1960 she ran aground at Hainan Island, South China, refloated and taken to Hong Kong where she was laid up. She sank in a typhoon while at Hong Kong in the June of that year, but was raised and consequently broken up.
