An oval brass tally issued to workmen (mostly quarrymen, but also included others such as office workers) travelling on the Dinorwic Quarry Workmens Train. The Dinorwic Quarry Workmens Train was first introduced in August 1895. It carried the workers from Pencoins to Gilfach Ddu, stopping along the way at Cefn Gwyn, Bethel, Pensarn, Pontrhythallt, and Penllyn. Additional carriages to accommodate the workers were added to the train at Bethel, Pontrhythallt, and Penllyn. The train took forty four minutes to travel the distance of seven miles between Penscoins and Gilfach Du. Each carriage was given a letter as form of identification e.g. A, B, C, D; and each seat in each carriage was individually numbered. Every carriage had a foreman to ensure that the workers sat in the correct seat, and to ensure that the rules were abided. This tally was issued for seat number 2, in carriage S of the train. This tally allowed its owner to travel between Gilfach Ddu and Penllyn.
