Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Large goblet, buff stoneware, standing on a spreading pedestal foot with short stem, the body of truncated ovoid form, ending with an applied silver rim with a raised rib at point of attachment; the body sprigged with relief moulding; a man on horseback with two pairs of hounds pursuing a stag, above this, a plaque containing a depiction of two men drinking, one seated on a barrel, slumped over another barrel serving as a table, the other leaning forward and drinking from a goblet with a jug by his feet, behind them a high wall and a tree; to the side, another plaque, containing a depiction of Hogarth's 'Modern Midnight Conversation', four men in frock coats seated at a table, raising glasses and a punch ladle, a woman to one side and a man to the other bringing another flagon to the table, beneath the table, a dog, above the table a grid-like mullioned window; interspersing these plaques, two oak-type trees and two classical female figures; a rich-brown colouration to upper portions with a slightly lustrous quality, the lower portions and the interior with a cream coloured slip all covered with a thin clear salt-glaze.
