Black silk fan with painted flowers and wooden guards and sticks. Formerly owned by Blake family, The Hill, Wyesham, Monmouth.
Fan leaf of black tabby-woven silk (?) is adhered to wooden sticks and guards. Fabric is hand-painted with three floral sprays in the following colours: pink, white, brown, yellow, pale green and orange. Narrow black lace is stitched to the unfinished upper and lower edges of the fabric. Black lacquered sticks and guards (probably beech). Sticks start out straight, but from where they are adhered to the textile, they become narrower and then taper gently to the tips. Guards and sticks are held together with pin. For suspension, a brass hoop is attached to either side of the pin. Sixteen sticks and two guards.
