Late Bronze Age bronze shield
Of Yetholm type, circular (diam. 668) of sheet bronze decorated with 20 repoussee bosses (diam. 6) with raised ribs between. The grip, which is protected by a hollow conical boss, is a seperate piece folded over to adapt it to the hand and riveted to the shield. On the back there is a small pointed tongue rived half-way in from the edge, and there is a second rivet, but no tongue, in a corresponding position on the opposite side of the shield.

Notes: Found in a peat bog (called Rhos-rydd on the Ordnance Map, otherwise Rhyd-y-gorse), near Glan Rhos Farm.
