S.S. NOLISEMENT, glass negative
¾ Starboard bow view of S.S. NOLISEMENT.
The brothers Philip and Thomas Morel had both moved to Cardiff from their native Jersey by 1862; by 1888 they had built up a fleet of 23 steamers. The steamer Nolisement dated from a later period in the firm’s history, having been built at Newcastle in 1928. This 5,084 gross ton vessel survived the Second World War and was eventually cut up at Split in Yugoslavia early in 1966.

Built 1928 by Northumberland Shipbuilding Co Ltd., Newcastle, for Nolisement Steamship Co Ltd, managed by Morel Bros. Ltd., Cardiff. 1950 – Sold to Hugo Stinnes, Hamburg, and renamed GLUCKAUF. She was lengthened in 1953 bringing her up to 5290gt. 1959 – Sold to Kvarnerska Plovidba (Maritenia Shipping), Rijeka, and renamed KUMROVEC. She was broken up at Split in 1966.
