Parasol; black and white striped silk satin, with white tassled fringe (fringe is bound together in bunches, forming a tassel) and plain white silk inner canopy. White lacquered wooden handle with tassel made of shaped wooden tassel-head and white silk. Bone ferrule at tip. Brass runner. The tassle that is attached to the handle is threaded through a brass fitting which penetrates through the wooden shaft. Small gap between ferrule and outer canopy suggests that a further set of fringes may have been attached at this point. A piece of narrow cream silk is loosely attached to the runner/inner centre of the parasol - it is not clear where this would have originally been positioned.
