Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales
Spice box, tin-plate, cylindrical drum-shaped form with hinged domed cover with moveable stirrup-shaped handle to the top and fastening hasp, the interior of the box divided into five partitions by radial metal partitions converging on a sixth circular compartment to the centre of the box which contains a cylindrical grater, each of the other five compartments contains a smaller wedge-shaped box with hinged lid with fastening hasp and ring handle; the exterior of the spice box covered with a magenta japan and decorated with gilt bands, the five smaller boxes covered with a black japan with a reddish tinge, the lid of each small box is inscribed in gilt with the name of a spice as recorded above. Three of the boxes still contain their original spices.
