Roman whetstone
Complete flat whetstone. The faces and long edges are worn evenly. There is a narrow zone of distinct utilisation along the side of one face (no doubt representing fine honing) and a small series of notches near to one end where a blade has been run across the edge. A few other scratches on this surface (best visible with a hand lens) may perhaps be post-depositional.
