Cowan read before the meeting of the Mining Institute of Scotland, 4 April 1951, and two cover notes (all held together by a staple) The first cover note is typed in black ink on cream paper explaining where and when the paper was given. The second cover is also typed in black ink on cream paper, giving a synopsis of the paper. The paper itself is 13 pages long, typed in black ink on cream paper. It contains some written notes in pencil alongside the text.
