Top edge of two rows of purl, followed by 12 rows of 3 knit/1 purl, then one row of purl, followed by a section of plain knitted stitches with the initials ET picked out five times around the whole stocking with blue wool thread, with a row of blue stitches above and below the letters. Below is another row of purl followed by narrow rows of cable stitches which cover the rest of the shaft and foot apart from a narrow section of the heel, the sole and the toe, which are done in plain knit. Each cable is only just over 1cm wide and consists of four stitches.
