Early Medieval human remains
These are the well preserved remains of an older adult (44-50 years) of undetermined gender.
They are from Burial Phase J: 774-1115 AD
They were buried in an extended supine position in simple grave oriented West-East. There is animal bone (faunal bone and calcinated bone) associated with the burial. It is also associated with burials SK36 and SK37.
This individual had Periotstitis which is an inflammatory reaction in bone to localised trauma or disease. They also had osteophyte growth on the right radial bone joint which is evidence of degenerative joint changes and could have been caused by a condition like arthritis.
