Wooden handle/shaft with an iron peat cutting blade on one end. The handle broadens approx half way along its length and becomes narrower and spade like towards its end where it is covered with an iron plate. The edges of the iron blade wrap around the end of the shaft and two screws hold it in position, one of the screws is brass and dome headed and probably not original. The blade is made from a single piece of iron and has a curved projection on one side. The blade is slightly wider than the end of the shaft and a wedge of wood has been inserted down one side to hlod it in position.
