Plate, soft-paste porcelain, creamy translucency, later Nantgarw glaze, numerous small pin holes and grit specks on the front, areas of discoloured glaze on the reverse, especially below the rim, and of crackling and pitting; the rim moulded in six small and six large plain lobes. The rim decorated in red with six insect and foliage sprays in red within a brown rim line. The centre painted with a man in a purple shirt, blue trousers and yellow hat, seated on a brown elephant in a landscape, a red chinoiserie fence of four panels in the foreground with a pierced rock to the right, behind two palm trees in green and purple entwine with a red willow, a flock of birds and outsized blue and yellow butterfly in the sky.
