Sample book containing swatches of upholstery fabrics. The fabrics are quite dencely woven with cut and uncut piles, the base weave is cotton and the pile wool. They are held together with a piece of string which has been threaded through at the top of each swatch and tied in a knot on the front of the first one. It is thought that the swatches were originally glued to the cover but this is no longer the case and the cover is loosely folded around them. The cover is made from 4 pieces of thick card with adhesive coated grey coloured fabric on the front side with an embossed border and the letters 'W.M BIRMM' printed in gold on the cover. The original hanging loop is a black cotton and silk twisted cord but a new loop has been made from a piece of cotton webbing.
