Banner

Early Urdd 'aelwyd' (branch) banner, details unknown. The early branches and 'cylchoedd’ (areas) had their own unique flags.

Rectangular banner with red silk tassels in all four corners. Corners also have brass rings for displaying the banner upright. Central panel of white glazed tabby woven cotton printed in red and green with a central cirular motif of a Welsh dragon within a shield, outlined in green; this sits within two green concentric circles and in-between the circles is an inscription in Welsh, printed in green. All four corners have red dragons. The borders surrounding the central panel are made up of white and red satin as well as what appears to be a green synthetic fabric along the upper edge. Outline drawing in black of a large letter on lower proper right corner, on white satin. Stitch holes suggest that this had at one time been embroidered, or perhaps an applique stitched to it. Similar black ontline drawing can be seen poking out from underneath a red satin section stitched to the lower proper left corner. Red silk covered rope edging along all edges. Lining has a central panel where the warp runs horizontal. The pieces of fabric that are used along upper and lower edges are orientated at 90degrees, with the warp running vertical. Machine stitched with some elements sewn on by hand.
