Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales is declaring a global climate and ecological emergency

Today (18 September 2019), Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales is declaring a global climate and ecological emergency and reconfirming its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.

Amgueddfa Cymru is also pledging its support to the young people who are participating in the Global Climate Strike later this week (20-27 September) as well as the Welsh Government’s own declaration of a Climate Emergency.

David Anderson, Director General, Amgueddfa Cymru said:

“Supporting the biodiversity of Wales, through our scientific research, our exhibitions and our education programmes, is at the heart of our work, and an integral part of our Vision - Inspiring People, Changing Lives.

“We recognise that we can do more to help tackle the climate crisis. How we do this will be outlined in our new Ten Year Strategic Plan for Amgueddfa Cymru, which will be developed over the course of the next year.

“We will continue to provide scientifically accurate information about the crisis, as well as opportunities for dialogue and debate with our communities about how it is affecting all of us in Wales, and the changes that are needed.

“By declaring an emergency, we are acknowledging what is happening to our world, and making a commitment to working with our communities to find solutions.”
