Event:Penydarren - Steam Day
A rare opportunity to see the amazing Penydarren steam locomotive on the move as we fire her up and drive her down the track.
Of world importance, the original locomotive made the first recorded journey by steam on rails, and would initiate a revolution in transport in the nineteenth century.
On 21 February 1804, the original of this locomotive ran on the nine-mile tram road from Penydarren to Abercynon, hauling a load of ten tons of iron and about seventy people who hitched an unofficial ride!
