Bio - Ray Mears is a motivational speaker, photographer and television presenter.
Ray Mears has become recognised as a leading expert in the skills of Bushcraft and Survival around the world. In 1983 Ray founded Woodlore, Britain’s first School of Wilderness and Bushcraft. Ray’s vision was to provide others with the opportunity to step beyond survival training and really master the skills of traditional wilderness travel. He is best known for the TV Series Ray Mears Bushcraft, Ray Mears World of Survival, Wilderness Walks, Extreme Survival, Wild Britain with Ray Mears, Wild China and the Real Heroes of Telemark. In 2010 Ray was asked by Northumbria police to help them track fugitive killer Raoul Moat.

Opening Hours

From Monday 4 November until Friday 22 February 2025, we will be open 10am – 4pm every day.

Christmas and New Year: Closed 24-26 December and 1 January. 

Parking

The National Waterfront Museum does not have a dedicated car park.

However, there are several pay and display car parks situated just a short walk from the Museum. You can find more information on car parking facilities here

  • Our café is open, but providing a limited offer. 
  • The Museum shop will be open during your visit.
  • You are welcome to bring a picnic , while there’s nowhere to eat these within the museum, there are benches around the marina outside which make for a nice spot.
