online:Museum Talks: Hortus Culture
Gardening for leisure and pleasure for wealthy Romans is a recognisable archaeological phenomenon within British Roman archaeology. The Latin word for garden is hortus, so Roman culture could be partly described as a ‘hortus’ culture. This talk outlines the rationale for the creation and planting of a popular Roman-inspired garden at the National Roman Legion Museum in Caerleon. International and regional Roman evidence for gardens and gardening will be briefly considered.
This session will be held in English.
